This graph
explains why it is so necessary to monitor water with drip irrigation.
This
is a classic graph of using drip irrigation ‘badly’. It can
easily be seen that the irrigation events between the 8th July
and the 28th July were not wetting the soil enough. Eventually
the plant becomes ‘stressed’ below the top 10cms.(compare the
water use at 20 and 30cm - green\purple lines after the 11th
July - none). After the 23rd the watering begins to affect the
20layer, but it is only the rain around the beginning of August
that refills the soil ‘correctly’.
Below can be
seen the combined graph of the one above. It can be seen that
the total water content drops to a 'stress' level when water
and nutrient use will be affected.
