The
Diviner™ accurately measures soil-water content across the
full range of soil moisture conditions through a portable
inserted into an access tubes in the ground.
Some
of the features of the Diviner 2000™:
-
Uses the same sensor and access tube as EnviroSCAN™
- Accuracy
better than 1% of Volumetric Soil water content
- Alarm
system to detect presence of water in the access tube
- Repeatability
of readings
- Patented,
automatic depth recognition
- Smooth
continuous insertion and removal of sensors for automatic
logging at each depth (no need to pause - up to 16 depths
reading in less than 2 seconds)
- Large
display featuring numeric or graphical output (can be read
in sunlight, or backlit for those who work the long hours)
- No
computer necessary, but data can be saved to a PC and viewed.
Diviner
2000 consists of a hand-held, portable data logger display
unit, connected by cable to a depth-scaled probe rod with
sensor attached.
Additional
requirements are in the form of installation kits, which comprise
the following:
- Access
tubes, Top cap (to prevent ingress of moisture)
- Bottom
stopper (to seal access tubes)
Sphere
of influence is critical to the correct understanding and
management of water in a profile. If it is too large there
is too much averaging, and if too small there are inaccuracies
with too little coverage. Diviner 2000 has a sphere of influence
typically 4 inches (10cm) into the horizontal plane of the
soil profile, giving extremely accurate management information.
The EnviroSCAN™ and Diviner 2000™ are
not affected by the following:
-
Rotational deficiencies of sensors in access tube
- Salinity
- Temperature
- Limited
sphere of influence
- Sensor
cleaning pads that collect moisture and therefore affect
reading
- Fluctuating
voltages
- Time
delays between reading in the soil profile
Sentek
provides a standard 'default' calibration equation for sands,
loams and clay loams. Sentek points out that the accuracy
of the existing EnviroSCAN standard default calibration with
an R2 value of 0.9737. Climate inside the PVC access tubes
can be controlled by silicon bags and the new Diviner 2000
has an alarm system with alert operates of ingress of water
into the access tubes.
The
following two graphs show the sort of graphs that can be produced
from Diviner data taken every few days. The more often the
readings are taken the better the graphs and the easier to
interpret.
|
|
|
| These
next two graphs are an example of the detail you can get
by taking readings more often. They are from drip irrigated
potatoes, showing how the soil was filled in the top 20cm
for scab control and then as the crop rooted deeper the
watering was kept in the top 20cm only. This strategy
was used by the grower, but it does not mean this is necessarily
the best way according to Peter White Water Management. |
|
|
|
| This next
graph is a perfect example of good water management -
the grower did his own trials - after advice from Peter
White water Management, proved to himself the way to water
and then this is what he does - you should be doing the
same! |
