The Cossignanis grow grapes predominantly, but also have
tobacco and blueberries on a 60 acre farm in Myrtleford, Victoria.
With ongoing water restrictions and increasing market demand
for high quality produce, Lorenzo and Guido made the decision
to find the technology that would not only save them time
and money, but that would be easy to use and understand.
When asked why they chose the Diviner 2000, the Cossignanis
cited compactness, ability to make informed decisions in the
field, and speed of operation in comparison to other devices,
as the key reasons for their decision. Savings in Time and
Money After using the Diviner 2000 over the past year, the
Cossignanis now feel they have a better understanding of moisture
levels at each depth in the crops' rootzone and the subsequent
effects on their crops.
Using the data collected by the Diviner 2000, Lorenzo
and Guido have been able to reduce the frequency and amount
of water applied to the crops, which has in turn prevented
over watering and leaching of nutrients beyond the active
rootzone.
Understanding the optimum amount of water needed for
their crops has also led to a reduction in energy costs. As
Lorenzo says 'energy costs are down because water has only
been applied when needed and only for as long as to refill
[the soil profile] to the desired level hence less energy
has been used.'
In addition to maximising financial resources, the Cossignanis
have also been able to improve their time management. For
example, the Diviner 2000's 'Swipe and Go' function has provided
Lorenzo and Guido with the ability to view soil moisture in
the crops' rootzone in a matter of seconds, as opposed to
several minutes with similar devices. Being able to view data
and make instant decisions in the field, without the need
for a PC, has also provided the speed and efficiency required
by the busy brothers.
Proven Results: Along with time, money and energy savings,
the Cossignanis also report an increase in overall quality,
a reduction in berry size and an earlier reaping date as a
result of using the Diviner 2000.
When asked if he would recommend the Diviner 2000 to other
growers, Lorenzo said 'I would and have recommended the Diviner
2000 to others, for its ease of use and for the small amount
of time needed to achieve results.'
